French history.
Bastille Day commemorates the falling
of La Bastille, the falling of a political prison
on July 14th, 1789. It symbolized the end of monarchy,
at least for a while. With scarce food, Parisians
fraternized together by improvising “civic”
dinners. Tables were set along the streets where
blue, white and red garlands were a must. The rich
brought their roasts and expensive wines while the
poor brought their stews and cheeses as the accordion
sound invited the crowd to dance. We hope you will
join us as we celebrate this day in elegant La Panetière
style.
